Words of Wisdom

Yes there will be days where you want to throw in the towel, but there will also be days where you wish they would never end because they are just that good….

Every day I try to do the best things possible for that little person aka McKinley… She is my everything and I want her to have a good grip on life before I leave into the great beyond… The struggle is real for her with not being able to talk.. I’m trying my best working with her OT and trying to get her back into a decent Speech Therapist before she starts her special needs school for the littles in Sept, holy jeeze that’s soon but bottom line is I need some input… I could research online for days about what is good for autistic kids with speech delays, but where would that get me… we are only 3 years in and I feel like there are plenty of others who may know from first hand experience better than I do and better than Google….ย

I need your help guys…. I need some advice on speech therapy…

I know starting all this help for her early is best and as a parent we want what is best for our kids…

  • McKinley is 3 and she wants to be verbal, she does say mom and she points to things…

  • We have done the picture boards and she sorta gets it…

  • I have tried tablets but she is so obsessed with tech items that she gets carried away with wanting to press buttons, and she knows there are other apps on the tablet so it doesn’t work the best….

  • I have heard of programs such as ย Gemini Speechย and other kinds of things but I really just want your input, some of you know this adventure in life better than I do…ย
Miss McKinley when she was around 7 months old… #myheart

Please help a mother out ๐Ÿ™‚

So throw down your words of wisdom…..

What has worked for you?

What has not worked for you?

Any input is helpful!!!

  1. Hello. How are you? Thanks fod being brave by sharing your stories. I am a mom of 5 with twins boys; one who has ADHD and the other who is on the Autism Spectrum. They both are 13-years-old. My son who is on the spectrum is still considered non-verbal legally although he knows how to speak. He only speaks when spoken too or when something ia bothering him. Before he began school, he received speech therapy at a local university….One he began public school, he receive speech therapy 5 days a week for 30 min. sessions. Learning to talk takes time for a child with Autism. Be patient and continue to love and support your beautiful child like you been doing. Everything will work out for the better.

    1. Thank you!! I will do everything I can to help her out with communication and try to be patient along the way.. I know it takes time for sure ๐Ÿ™‚ … I guess my inner struggle is noticing how it bothers her, I can see her upset at times because she wants to put the words out there however doesn’t understand how.. Being a mom is an adventure in it’s own, having twin boys you are one powerful mother yourself ๐Ÿ™‚ I appreciate you sharing and I hope the best for your boys…
